The Weekly Five - Post Five

Hello and happy daylight savings Sunday to you! It has been an exceptionally rainy weekend here in North Vancouver. I am enjoying a weekendof no teen activities on the calendar.

Before I dive right into to my top 5 highlights of the week, you might notice I have changed the name of this recurring blog post. I was really struggling to get these posts live on a Friday, and as much as I loved the ring of "the Friday Five" I have changed the title to "the Weekly Five" and have accepted that posting this on the weekends is a more realistic goal.

So with that, let's dive in to a re-cap of my recent trip to Victoria, a new fave store in North Vancouver and more!

Trip to Victoria & The Empress Hotel

Last Weekend I travelled to beautiful Victoria BC with my daughter and her volleyball team. One of the parents on the team works for the Fairmont and she got us a great rate at the Fairmont Empress - what a treat (Thank you Leah!)!

Unfortunately we didn't get to spend very much time at the hotel. As is the nature of these types of tournaments, the majority of the weekend was spent in a high school gym, cheering on our girls, and I wouldn't have it any other way!

We tried to soak up as much of the gorgeous hotel atmosphere as possible. Saturday night some of us moms went for drinks at the Empress Bar which is so gorgeous. We had a fancy cocktail and enjoyed some laughs and live music.

I was most excited about taking in all of the design details of this historic and regal property. The Empress, as you can imagine is decorated in a very traditional, English way with lots of wallpaper, fancy light fixtures and beautiful details at every turn. Here is a photo dump of the photos I captured.

Stems by Stong's

I drove Sadie to a hair appointment this week and I had some time to kill while waiting for her, so I visited a store that I have been dying to check out for months now. It's called Stems by Stongs, and it's interesting because it is basically an annex to Stong's Grocery store. They used to have a small floral/gift department in the actual grocery store and I loved buying flowers there. They decided to open a large, stand-alone store full of flowers, plants, gift items, housewares and basically all the stuff I love. I was also excited to learn that they host workshops there and I hope to sign up for one in the near future. I snapped some photos of some things that caught my eye:

I am looking forward to visiting this store again soon!

Shopping at HomeSense

I have been chipping away at an organizing project for over two weeks now and I am pleased to say, it's finally finished. I have built-in bookcases flanking my fireplace in our formal living room and there is tons of starage in the cabinets below. This is one of the areas where I stash styling items and home decor -think vases, candles, faux flowers and the like. I have never taken the time to properly organize this area and it was becoming a little unruly. I hauled every last item out of the cupboards and the stuff hiding in the decorative storage boxes too. I edited my collection and organized things into like categories, and also made a pile of stuff for donations. I am going to dedicate a post to this organizing project with more details to follow. I paid a visit to Homesense this week to buy a few more storage containers and there were so many good things to look at I had to really stay focused. I use my notes app on my phone to take photos of any project I am shopping for with dimensions. I take my measuring tape with me when I am shopping to avoid buying something that doesn't fit.

Having these notes handy in my phone made it much easier to shop for organizing solutions for my built in's.

Here's a sneak peak of the plastic bins I bought in action!

I will be sharig a reveal of my newly organized built-ins next week with some tips and tricks you can use for your next organizing project!

Gift Certificates Now Available

I was recently contacted by a past client to request a consultation as a birthday gift for her design-loving 12 year old daughter. I did a room makeover as a 13th birthday gift for another design enthusiast last summer. I think a consultation and/or room makeover is the perfect gift for a birthday or as a housewarming present.. I designed this gift card using Canva and had some printed out so they are ready for purchase! A giftcard to a local home furniture store would be the perfect addition!

Sneak Peak

I am a little behind with sharing some project reveals here on the blog. I get so busy with life, I often forget to make time to share. I have been working on a blog post showcasing one of my latest Full-Service projects. Last year I met with a lovely young couple, Julia and Rob. They were moving to the North Shore AND about to welcome their first baby. They had purchased a Duplex and wanted help furnishing the main floor, which was a long and narrow open concept space with a living/dining/kitchen . Buying a new home and having a baby all in the same month is ALOT and I was so happy they hired me to help them decorate and furnish this beautiful new space. Julia had had fallen in love with this area rug for the Living Room and it guided the design plan as you can see below.

Here is a sneak Peak of how the living room turned out:

Stay tuned for more photos and details coming to the blog soon!

That's a Wrap

Thanks for reading along! Good luck adjusting to the time change this week and enjoy that extra hour of light after dinner time!
